We Laugh in the Face of Love
My name is Amanda. I've been alive for twenty-two years all of which I've spent living in North Texas. I'm an art student looking for a teaching job. If my soul had asthma then music would be its inhaler. I'm a harry potter nerd... like to the point where I have it tattooed on my body… no literally I do. I work in my university’s library so I read allot of books. I love cold weather and watching movies. Like Delacroix said "my keenest wish is to remember that I am writing only for myself" therefore my blog is for my own mental health I don't expect anyone to understand it. I try to fill it with things that make me happy, ideas I have, projects I work on, and things that I find interesting. Enjoy.

-before class caught up with some people from last semester, aaron, and my old graphic design teacher… she told us about having ankle surgery and taking the bus (she was still on crutches and can’t drive) “but you know me I’m like spongebob I make the craziest situations cool and fun” I thought that was a weird way to phrase things. She was sad I wasn’t taking typography… I’m not though jeez.

- first class 19th century art history with Dr. John Calabrese. For the class we right one 8 page paper and have two tests. There are three amanda’s. Dr. C is from new york and when he talks he sounds like billy crystal.  Going over the syllabus today he talked about living in brooklyn. He compared it to mordor and himself to frodo, and said that if you survive two years they automatically award you a purple heart. It made me laugh I think I’ll enjoy this class. He also told us on of his painting teachers in college was friends with Jackson Pollock which is cool.

-now sitting in the west gallery side eating lunch waiting for my two o’clock meeting. Radke rode his bike into the building wearing ear muffs it made me laugh… theres always something funny going on in this building, and everyone knows everyone… for the most part.

Classical v. Romantic

I felt this was blog worthy If you have time to read and think please do…

Classical

The Brain: rational, reasonable, calculating, measure in truths, formulas and calculations, teaching/learning/understanding, objectivity, didactic, tradition, ideal, standard of excellence, clarity, timeless, order/structure, study the past, nature

Romantic

The Bleeding Heart: irrational, feeling, honest emotion, mood, intuition, unrequited love, nostalgic for the past, dark morbid/macabre, search for the sublime for better understanding, conflicted soul, excessive, exotic, erotic, violence in nature, nationalism, madness, solitary genius (no one understands), immense respect for nature

I remember one of my friend’s came to visit me when I was an undergrad in new york and we went to central park and there was a homeless man sitting on a park bench, and anthony went over to the man and asked “Sir, do you believe in dreams.” the man looked at him and said “Son, I believe in nothing else.” That’s one of those profound moments you don’t forget.

I could’ve bought a banner from urban outfitters for $14 for my birthday party… instead I made my own with 4 dollars worth of black card stock. Another exciting saturday night avoiding my massive pile of homework.

i hate watercolor with a passion.

after 8 hours of painting this is my midterm portfolio for watercolor… unfortunately I missed the week of school before spring break so I don’t know how many paintings I’m suppose to have or if I need an artist statement

plus my teacher hates me so who knows…

i miss radke’s painting class :/

I am beginning my Journal; the Journal I have so often planned to write. My Keenest wish is to remember that I am writing only for myself; this will keep me truthful, I hope, and it will do me good. These pages will reproach me for my instability. I am beginning in good spirits.
Eugene Delacroix September 3, 1822

Her clothes spread wide, and mermaid-like awhile they bore her up, which time she chanted snatches of old lauds, as one incapable of her own distress, or like a creature native and indued unto that element. But long it could not be till that her garments, heavy with their drink, pull’d the poor wretch from her melodious lay to muddy death.” (4.7 176-182)
